There’s nothing quite like doing family photos in the mountains right after a snowstorm. Big Cottonwood Canyon turned into a winter dream for this fun, relaxed family session with my single mom friend and her three grown kids. Fresh snow covered the trees, the air felt crisp and quiet, and the soft mountain light made everything feel extra magical.
This wasn’t a stiff or overly posed photo session—it was full of laughter, movement, and real connection. We captured cozy moments of mom surrounded by her kids, but the best part happened in between the poses. A snowball fight broke out (as it always does), and mom quickly became the main target—laughing, dodging, and eventually surrendering as the official casualty. Those genuine laughs and playful moments are what made this session so special.
As a Sandy, Utah family photographer, these are the moments I love most—authentic, joyful, and full of personality. Big Cottonwood Canyon is one of my favorite locations for mountain family photos, especially in winter when the scenery adds an extra layer of magic.
If you’re looking for a Sandy Utah family photographer who focuses on real moments, natural connection, and fun photo sessions that don’t feel forced, I’d love to help you plan your own mountain family photos—snowball fights encouraged.
