Family Spotlight: A Wasatch Mountain Session with UK Roots and Wildflower Dreams

Summer in the Wasatch Mountains is nothing short of magic. Everything is alive—the greens are vibrant, the wildflowers bloom in golden bursts, and the alpine air carries the kind of peace that feels like a deep exhale. 

This beautiful family have relocated from the UK to the Salt Lake City area for work, and I had the joy of photographing them at the very peak of summer’s beauty—surrounded by tall grasses, golden yellow wildflowers, and lush mountain backdrops that felt like something out of a dream. What made this session even more special? A wonderfully small-world connection that gave us both goosebumps.

As we got to chatting during the shoot, I learned that the lovely mum of the family had actually grown up just twenty minutes from where my own mum is from in Scotland! Thousands of miles away from those misty Scottish hills, and yet here we were—standing among Utah’s wildflowers. It was such a sweet and unexpected moment of connection.

This session also felt like a celebration—not only of family but of achievement. Their daughter recently graduated from grad school in accounting! Getting to photograph families like this, in the beauty of my own backyard, reminds me why I love what I do. It’s about more than just pictures. It’s about connection, shared stories, and freezing a moment in time that will mean even more as the years go on.
