Family Photos in the Wildflower Meadows

Family Photos in the Wildflower Meadows

There’s nothing quite like summertime in the mountains. Fresh alpine air, sweeping views, and meadows bursting with wildflowers make it one of the most magical times to get outside — and one of the best settings for family photos.

This past July, I made the trip up to the high meadows for a day surrounded by color. The fields were alive with blooms, the sun was warm, and the whole landscape felt like the perfect backdrop. We decided to take family photos up there, and they turned out even better than I imagined — natural, vibrant, and full of joy.

If you’ve ever thought about doing the same, here are a few things I learned along the way:

🌸 Best Time to Go

Wildflower season in the mountains usually peaks in mid-to-late July, depending on snowpack and elevation. The meadows are at their brightest for just a few short weeks, so timing is everything.

📸 When to Shoot

Golden hour is your best friend up here. Early morning or just before sunset gives you softer light and fewer crowds. Midday sun can be harsh at higher elevations, but it’s beautiful if you’re after that bright, airy look.

👟 What to Bring

  • Comfortable shoes for a bit of hiking or wandering

  • Layers (mountain weather changes fast)

  • Snacks + water, especially if you’re bringing kids

  • A blanket or neutral outfit pieces that complement the flowers without competing with them

💛 Why It’s Worth It

Photos in the wildflower meadows don’t just capture your family — they capture the feeling of summer in the mountains. Playful, colorful, and free. Looking back on ours, I’m reminded not just of how beautiful the scenery was, but of the laughter, the quiet moments, and the joy of being together.

If you’ve been considering a family photo session, I can’t recommend the wildflowers enough. They only last a short season, but the memories and photos are ones you’ll keep forever.
