The Best Family Photography Locations in Sandy, Utah & Salt Lake County

Looking for the perfect location for your Utah family photos? Here are some of my favorite family photography locations in Sandy, Salt Lake County, and throughout the Salt Lake City area.

One of the best things about being a Sandy, Utah family photographer is having so many beautiful locations just minutes from home. From mountain views and wildflowers to charming farms, gardens, wooded trails, and the Great Salt Lake, there is truly something for every family and every season.

When you book a family photography session with me, you don't have to worry about choosing the perfect location on your own. I have photographed families all over the Salt Lake County area and can help you choose a spot that fits your family's style, the season, and the type of images you envision.

Whether you're looking for mountain family photos in Utah, fall family photography, wildflower pictures, or a beautiful outdoor family photography location near Sandy, here are some of my favorite options.

Family Photography in Sandy, Utah

If you're searching for a family photographer in Sandy, Utah, you're in a great location. Sandy gives us easy access to both beautiful neighborhood parks and some of Utah's most scenic mountain locations.

Here are a few of my favorite Sandy-area locations for family photos.

Hidden Valley Park – Sandy, Utah

Best for: Mountain views, tall grasses, sagebrush, and a natural Utah landscape

Hidden Valley Park is one of my favorite options for families who want their photos to feel natural and outdoorsy without having to drive far into the mountains.

The location has beautiful mountain views, tall grass, sagebrush, small trees, and wood fences along the trail. It's especially beautiful in late summer and early fall and is a free location.

Why I love it: It gives you that classic Utah mountain feel while still being easy and convenient for a family session.

Granite Park – Sandy, Utah

Best for: Mountain views, tall grass, scrub oak, and easy access

Granite Park is another great choice for families looking for Sandy, Utah family photos. It offers mountain views with tall grasses and scrub oak, and there are even sunflower fields that can bloom in September.

This is a particularly easy location for families because parking is close to where we begin the session. The guide recommends evening sessions here because there isn't much shade during other parts of the day.

Why I love it: Beautiful mountain scenery without requiring a long hike.

Whitepine Trailhead – Little Cottonwood Canyon

Best for: Mountain families, summer greenery, fall colors, and winter photos

Just up Little Cottonwood Canyon, Whitepine Trailhead offers a beautiful combination of tall green grasses, aspen trees, pine trees, and mountain scenery.

Summer gives us gorgeous greenery and light, while fall can be spectacular when the aspens turn. It's also a beautiful option for winter family photos.

Why I love it: If you want your family photos to really feel like Utah, this is a beautiful choice.

More Favorite Family Photography Locations in Salt Lake County

One of the reasons I love being a Salt Lake County family photographer is that we have so many different types of locations within a relatively small area.

Here are a few more favorites.

Wheeler Farm – Murray, Utah

Best for: Families wanting a classic, playful, rustic setting

Wheeler Farm is a wonderful option for family photography in Murray. The property includes mature trees, a charming farmhouse, flower gardens, barns, tractors, rustic buildings, fields, and wooded areas.

It's also a year-round location, making it a great option when you want something other than a traditional mountain backdrop.

Why I love it: There are so many different backgrounds and little pockets to explore, which makes a family session feel varied and fun.

Murray Park – Murray, Utah

Best for: Greenery, mature trees, bridges, and fall colors

Murray Park is another great Salt Lake County family photography location. It has lots of greenery in the spring and summer, while the mature trees make it especially beautiful in the fall.

There are also cute bridges, a gazebo, and a wooded area that works beautifully for photos throughout the year.

Why I love it: It's a classic park setting with plenty of variety.

Knudsen Park – Holladay, Utah

Best for: Fall family photos and mountain views

If you're looking for family photography near Holladay, Utah, Knudsen Park is a favorite. The location combines mountain views, fall colors, scrub oak trees, and a cute bridge.

It's especially beautiful from July through October, with fall being one of my favorite times to photograph here.

Why I love it: You get beautiful mountain scenery and gorgeous fall foliage without needing to head far up the canyon.

Memory Grove & the Utah State Capitol – Salt Lake City

Best for: Spring blossoms, gardens, architecture, and a more classic look

For families who want something a little different, Memory Grove and the Utah State Capitol offer beautiful options right in Salt Lake City.

Memory Grove has blossoming trees in the spring, gardens in the summer, bridges, and beautiful structures. The Capitol adds gorgeous granite architecture and is particularly beautiful when the cherry trees are blooming.

Why I love it: It's a great choice if you want your family photos to have a more polished, timeless, or architectural feel.

Jordan Pines – Big Cottonwood Canyon

Best for: Mountain views, summer greenery, peak fall colors, and winter

Jordan Pines is a popular choice for families who want those iconic Utah mountain family photos.

The mountain views are beautiful in the summer and fall, and the area is especially popular during peak fall colors. It also photographs beautifully after the snow arrives, making it a great winter family photography location.

Why I love it: It's one of those locations that makes you feel like you're on a Utah mountain adventure without having to travel hours away.

Want Wildflower Family Photos?

If wildflowers are on your family-photo wish list, Utah has some incredible options.

Albion Basin – Alta

Albion Basin is one of the most spectacular places for summer family photos when the wildflowers are blooming. The wildflower season is generally July through August, but this location can get very crowded during peak season.

There is a lower parking area where you can walk less than a mile to the meadow, or we can wait for access to the upper meadow depending on conditions.

Guardsman Pass – Park City

Guardsman Pass is another incredible summer location, especially during peak wildflower season in July and August. It's also gorgeous in late September when the aspen groves turn for fall.

The location is accessible from late June through October, making it a fantastic option for families who want dramatic mountain scenery.

Family Photos at the Great Salt Lake

Want something completely different from mountain family photos?

Saltair & the Great Salt Lake can give your family gallery a beautiful, open, almost otherworldly feel.

The Great Salt Lake provides wide-open views, water, salt, and beautiful skies. Just be prepared for some dirt and salt—and bring shoes that are okay getting messy! Bugs can also be an issue once the weather warms up, so bug spray is a good idea.

This is a great choice for families who want something less traditional and a little more adventurous.

Which Utah Family Photography Location Is Right for You?

When you book your family photography session with Jenny Turk Photography, I'll help you choose a location based on:

  • 🌸 Whether you're hoping for wildflowers
  • 🍂 Your preference for fall colors
  • 🌾 Whether you want fields and tall grasses
