Fall Family Photos in Big Cottonwood Canyon | Utah Family Photographer

There is nothing quite like fall family photography in Utah, especially when you catch the breathtaking peak fall colors in Big Cottonwood Canyon! Last October, I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet family who traveled from Arizona to Utah specifically to capture their family portraits surrounded by our gorgeous autumn scenery. With vibrant fall foliage, mountain views, golden light, and colorful aspen trees, Big Cottonwood Canyon is one of my favorite locations for fall family photos near Salt Lake City. My goal is never to force perfectly posed smiles for an entire hour. We’ll get the traditional family portraits, but we’ll also play, explore, snuggle, walk, and let the kids be themselves. Toward the end of the session, everyone usually loosens up—and that’s when the fun, giggles, genuine smiles, and relaxed poses start to happen. That’s when the magic happens. Those in-between moments are often the photographs families treasure most.
